THE CHALLENGE

Ocean Champs has released their first customized eBook in a series of books which will educate kids about ocean health and protection. The first eBook is based on a true story about an exciting encounter Ashlan Cousteau had with a grouper off the coast of Belize. Ocean Champs needed a way to promote this new eBook.

  • Come up with a GIF to match the storyline of the eBook.

  • Find a way for the grouper fish to interact with the kid.

THE SOLUTION

Since the grouper in the story befriends Ashlan Cousteau during her dive, a kiss on the cheek is the perfect way to demonstrate their friendly nature and promote the eBook.

  • Place the kid in a wetsuit matching the wetsuit in the eBook.

  • Crop, scale, and place the kid's face inside the scuba mask.

  • Use face detection to align the grouper's mouth with the kid's cheek.

THE CAMPAIGN

Ocean Champs partnered with Green Apple Studio, a large school photography company, to sell this customized GIF to parents across Quebec and Ontario.

  • They have the perfect target audience since the eBook is aimed at children aged 2-7.

  • Parents are already ordering their school photos online, so adding a customized digital GIF to their storefront was a simple integration.

Green Apple Studio is the largest School Photography studio in Quebec, Canada. Shooting on green screen allows them to offer parents a large selection of backgrounds and products through their online storefront.

The school photography industry is a very mature market, so Green Apple Studio is continuously looking for ways to stand out from the competition.

  • Offer a product that parents want to buy.

THE SOLUTION

Introduce customized GIFs into the school photography market. Since they already have photos of the kids and an online storefront, it was  easy to integrate GIFs into their workflow. 

  • Create exciting GIFs that parents want to share.

    • According to a recent survey, graduation photos are the most shared by parents, so offering a graduation GIF would be perfect for parents to send to friends and family.

    • Given the global pandemic we are all facing, a fun GIF focused on schools closures would resonate with many parents.

  • Offer GIFs supporting non-profit organizations to raise awareness for important causes, which also increases customer interest.

Green Apple Studio launched the new animated GIF product in September 2020.

  • When parents shop for their photos online, there is a pop-up alerting them of the new product.

  • Parents can view a preview of the GIFs with their child's face before purchasing.

The Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation wanted to create something fun and inclusive to support their Foundation.

  • Create a campaign that raises awareness.

  • Make kids across Quebec feel like part of the Canadiens team.

THE SOLUTION

Create a digital product representing their Bleu Blanc Bouge Action program to offer children an opportunity to enjoy physical activity and adopt a healthy lifestyle by building refrigerated ice rinks in local communities across Quebec. 

  • Give the kid a sense of accomplishment by having him/her score a goal.

  • Digital GIFs are highly shareable, so parents can share the GIF to help raise awareness for the Foundation.

  • Use face detection to place the kid's face inside the helmet.
